Feeling like a noob again
Thus far in my career as a developer, I have been a front-end dev, back-end dev, and database dev. Up until now I had never done any infrastructure or DevOps related work. What happened outside the development environment was a black box to me.
For the past two months at work, this is pretty much all I have been doing. I must say... I feel like a junior again! At my last role I was in more of a team lead position, filling roles of architectural decision making and mentorship. Now I feel like the biggest noob on the team.
This has been an alarming turn of events for me, and has made me question my skill level more than a few times thus far. I've managed to stay mostly level-headed about it, rationalizing that any unfamiliar paradigm normally takes some getting used to— let alone multiple of them at once!
This humbling experience has come at a good time for me. At my last position, I probably could have done a better job of winding down my ego and absorbing the knowledge possessed by those around me. I'll happily spend the next little while learning and growing, in more ways than one.
